I remember the days in Saudi Arabia when I was growing up. There were no alternatives to travel except planes— among them Saudi Arabian Airlines, Lufthansa, British Airways, Air France and Swiss Airlines.

They were very expensive, and it felt at that time that only rich people could travel. We, as children, had to sacrifice a lot of toys and spending throughout the year (not that there was much to spend on in those days) to afford tickets to travel. There were only First Class and Economy options available.

I find it amazing how many travel options are now available in Saudi Arabia. Due to new regulations, more airlines can fly to Saudi Arabia. Saudis are now happy to fly with Saudi Arabian Airlines because of the improved services and offered destinations. Most importantly, low-cost airlines like FlyNas and international airlines now reach Saudi Arabia.

In today’s Saudi Arabia, traveling to escape the boredom of daily life has changed. With the entertainment possibilities available, people now take more short journeys to escape boredom, heat, and for various occasions or a change of scenery. Having a variety of choices is important. Creating jobs is one thing, but more importantly, it opens the door for affordable travel and opportunities for mood changes.

Unlike in Europe, it is geographically challenging to move around within the Arab world. The scenery on the way is not entertaining, and while roads may be developed, facilities like rest areas are lacking, and the destinations are vast.

From Dubai to Jeddah, it's a three-hour flight and an 14-hour drive, which is definitely not an entertaining one. Opening more options by providing adequate low-cost carriers, creating train destinations, and offering ship cruises will definitely help all levels of Saudi society by giving them more opportunities to travel. This is a must in today’s world.

Overall, the transformation in travel options within Saudi Arabia not only signifies progress in transportation infrastructure but also reflects the country's broader commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its citizens. As these changes continue to unfold, they promise to make travel more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
